Data Science & Machine Learning for intermediate

Learn the foundation of Data Science and Machine Learning and enjoy the Swedish summer on the country side! A collaboration with Neo4j.

The Pink Programming Data Science and Machine Learning camp is a long weekend spent in beautiful Kivik, Österlen with the aim of learning to code while we socialize and enjoy the Swedish summer. During the camp you will get to know Neo4j and learn Machine Learning with Python. There will be teacher-led lessons and small individual programming tasks combined with social activities, cooking and free time to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

There will be a ton of different activities to choose from - swim, relax in the sauna, go for walks or runs in the beautiful landscape, do yoga together, try out the local Äppelmust... Or just code the whole time! What we are trying to say is that there will be a lot going on, and it is up to you how many of the activities you want to participate in.

You as a woman or transperson, are welcome regardless of age and background. The only requirements are that you are eager to learn more about programming and have access to your own computer.

In order to fully take advantage of the content in this camp, we recommend that participants have some prior experience with coding and have some basic knowledge of databases. Expert level is not required. A programming course or equivalent, and if you have used a database either as the back-end to an app or if you have written some SQL to generate and retrieve data from a relational database, will be enough to comfortably take you through the workshops.

If you are unsure if your skills are enough, or if you want to refresh your memory, we can recommend some tutorials to help you feel well prepared.

About the course:

Did you ever reflect how the shopping site could propose clothing that exactly matches your taste? Or whether the banks could have been able to prevent those money-laundering scandals if they had only used the right tools? Or what it means when every other news article talks about Machine Learning? During this week you will learn about some of the tools and techniques that are transforming our society.

Expected learning outcomes:

After the course the attendant should have got:

  • You will understand what a graph database is and what kind of problems it is best at solving, with specific examples from Neo4j.
  • You will be able to create data models for connected use cases, and write queries in Cypher, the graph query language.
  • You will have loaded small data sets into Neo4j and have written a simple app.
  • You will learn about Pandas and Numpy packages in Python and do hands-on Data Analysis.
  • You will be introduced to several Machine Learning models and will code up a predictive model.
